What happened to this

4:00 with regards to this DDOS "attack", it wasn't a very proven "attack" as it was merely speculated to be one. Considering how the "attacks" only happened during the night(or mostly), another explanation could be that his store couldn't handle the overwhelming amount of costumers who'd start trying to buy the game from Europe, as Europeans are time wise about 4-8 hours ahead. (Note, this is addressed later in the video, somewhat)

Ooh boi, I was there during the Beta debacle. It was very stressful, I remember it felt like an actual war was going on. The very highhorse defenders attacking anything resembling criticism, with venomous comments on all sides. But there was still a solid core of genuine people who wanted to make the release good and desperately kept trying to suggest changes, or even just delay the release because EVERYONE knew it would be a disaster if it released in that state. Then we just had the war feeling like trying to speak through a glass door with muffled answers, and at the end, radio silence, it released, it crashed and burned. Way too much good will was burnt on wanting Wollay to have a success. No more, I can't defend or even care about anything related to Cubeworld. It's too depressing, and regardless of if he's actually a master connist or as he claims to be, I don't want anything from him anymore.

My take that nobody asked is. This guy is a scam artist crying for alleged issues to earn internet brownie points if he had such problems he shouldn't have prolonged anything nor guttes the game, he should've returned the money. Not everyone is as privileged for people to fund your dream, the moment money was involved this no longer was just a passion project but a product and he totally delivered something not advertised.

Regarding the DDOS attack The college I went to releases results for end of semester exams for all students at the same time. Every year there was a DDOS attack on the results portal, until IT's suggestion of staggering the release of them by school and year was taking up. Suddenly there wasn't a DDOS attacks anymore.

I hate that the rightful outrage over generative AI has permanently tainted the idea of AI as a concept. AI-powered assistive technology that helps people with everyday tasks? That's fantastic! It's something we should be embracing 100%! It's only when you try to replace human creativity and passion that it becomes a problem, and thanks to scummy gen-AI practices, the implementation of AI where it *should* be used has been set back by a decade or more. I choose to remain optimistic about the whole situation (because being pessimistic about it just leads to an endless spiral of depression and anger, which helps no one). My hope is that the big studio execs will dump all their money into gen-AI slop right up until the public realizes how dull the output is compared to real human-made work, at which point we'll see the braindead executives' empires topple due to their own stupidity and creator-owned studios will rise from the ashes to take their place. I don't know if it will happen, but I choose to hope. All that said, I think it's completely impossible for gen-AI to fully replace human artists. Art isn't about the end product for the artists; it's about the process and self-expression, and no computer can simulate that. Gen-AI is going to be a permanent disgusting tumor on our world, but it can only mass-produce a soulless facsimile of the end product of the artistic process, not the process itself or all the passion behind it.

Feel like he kinda developed his game in vacuum, ya know on top of neglecting to hire additional help. Like if he made small updates here and there he could take feed back and make a better game overall then the jank whatever system he ended up with.

This plays like either brilliantly-composed satire or a kids' movie that will soon reveal that this was all a nefarious plot by the evil coin abomination. If it is genuine, it's disgustingly blatant false advertising. Everyone knows no woman would willingly enter the 6-mile stench cloud around any cryptobro, much less go to an island solely inhabited by them.

It was the birth of valoren, its an open sourced project that is way further along than cubeworld was, worth playing or trying

2007-2009 was in all truth still brilliant. The trading restriction didn't actually ruin the core gameplay, and all the additions at that time were good. Yes, even Dungeoneering.

This is partly why I haven't bothered with self-publishing any of my (few) experiments online - I know I don't have the werewithal to deal with the commitment required to accept supporting a product with my problems. But there's solutions to that - forthright communication among them. Mental health is an asshole, because of how intimately it interferes with your ability to function in life, but it doesn't excuse half-measures where taking in money, coming from other people who may also have the same, is concerned. I'll just hang onto this alpha license and wait for whatever the end is, haven't thought about this thing since my childhood friend still lived in this state with our Minecraft server and I lived two miles down the street at my mom's place prior to the military. Duke Nukem Forever, Star Citizen, Minecraft and Cyberpunk 2077 have been announced, come out and/or have had more substantial content updates since this thing's been started.

I am, honestly, mostly interested, do what extrems we are goint to take the AI. At some point, i think, the AI will reach its limits, as it can "only" combine or rework, but not truly "create new things" (at least in my opinion). I do agree, that now, it will be to late to stop this trend and we have to live with it. But there will come a day, where the limits of AI creativity and the possibility of cost savings is reached. The less people the companies pay, the less people are able to purchase their products. Simple as that.

Old video, but hearing Boulder, CO (the CO stands for "Colorado" rather than "county") made me look up and take notice. I used to work in Boulder, also in the tech industry, and I never heard of either company. From the Linkedin pages, IdeaFabrik is based in the UK and Laniatus is based in Boulder, CO, USA. Struck me as very weird they would be filing suit in the US when they are claiming to also represent IdeaFabrik, which is based in the UK, I'd think suing where both people live would be easier. Now from the end of the video it seems like they may or may not have even actually had the rights to represent IdeaFabrik, which could explain it. Also weird that the person at the "legal" email address didn't specifically claim to be a lawyer or provide their full name which would let you confirm they were a lawyer but whatever, maybe that's normal. I try to avoid having to deal with corporate legal because it only brings suffering. The first google result for Laniatus shows their office address. The address is in an expensive shopping district, like if you were just off of Kensington High Street in London. So I was wondering if they put a fake address. I looked it up, and it's a coworking type space, which makes sense given that the Linkedin page shows almost all of Laniatus's employees being based out of Turkey. The employee location also makes sense, as anyone with the skillset they would need in Boulder would be requiring $120-150k per year at minimum or else they would just go next door to one of the many other tech companies in the area. As of April 2024 they seem to still be working on building the same game on the MetaEngine mentioned in the video, no idea if the legal problems mentioned at the end of the video are still ongoing. That's as far as I'm going to dig because given my connections to the tech industry in Boulder it would be too easy for me to accidentally cross the line from Internet digging to IRL connections.

Whats even worse about the moderation disaster was that most of the long time followers tried to levy constructive critique because the gameplay changes were (and still are in my opinion) flat out broken and stayed civil the entire time trough and were banned by the dozens, while so called "defenders" partially wrote incredibly vile and horrid comments that had neither substance nor actually addressed the critiques and were allowed to stay on the forums.

He needed a manager/publisher. Perfectionism is no excuse for anything.

There's a part of me hoping that CW will get that new update that brings back those alpha features, but the longer we go, the more hopeless it feels. The CW discord still lights up with stuff and emails, but it's hard to keep the faith for this long. I got the Alpha along with a friend back when it was open, and the Alpha is amazing with friends. Shocked Wollay hasn't released a beta branch with the Alpha on it so we can go back without having to pirate a copy because the server and websites been down for years.

I think we all have "spaceships" in our project boxes and folders: Stuff that floats around and takes up space. There is a reason I personally NEVER publish anything beyond silly memes: What if someones wants to give me money for it? I know damn well I would not have the strength to say no to money! And with money, suddenly there is expectations. One guy in a shed can only get so much done. I find people exhausting so I would do like Wolley and just... drop the PR. Concerning the DDoS attack story: Sidney Decker may want to have a word with the author(s) of that theory. Because in hindsight, with no stress, with more information available and knowing the outcome, it is obvious what went wrong.

Was a lot of people's first lesson to not throwing away your money. Only kickstarter's I've supported already offered a demo/beta I'd be happy even if it was never updated. Devs also had already worked years and had a working game already.

I feel WAY more sympathy for Wollay than any of the complaining fans. If you put money towards an early access game you are entitled to nothing other than the knowledge your money is now gone. Just like stock investors have no gurantee they'll make any money when they buy. Complaining about an indie dev not following the release date you made up in your head is ridiculous. I learned my lesson almost 10 years ago with Spacebase DF9. It was an early access game made by Double Fine, a relatively large studio with a long past of selling completed, good games. I supported it thinking an established dev wouldn't take the money and run. Surprise! The games final update added no content, fixed no bugs, and just changed the version number from Alpha 0.03 to Full release 1.0. The game is still for sale at full price on steam

I'm a dev who used to work in the software industry (professional software not games). I wrote an article/video a while ago about organizing your project and recommended dividing your non-code art and sound assets into a totally separate folder from code. That's how all serious projects are organized. People on gamedev reddit got MAD mad and there were 70+ comments telling me that's an awful idea and they put all their assets in the source code folder right next to the files that use them. Two months later a big youtuber made a video that looked almost exactly like mine saying that putting them in their own folder was BAD. He then said he talked to "friends in the industry" to ask if they put stuff in the same folder or keep it separate and they said they keep everything separate lol. But he still doubled down on putting stuff in code folders for "hobbyists". This is exactly why you keep assets separate. The second you hire an artist it becomes a giant problem because you don't want to make them download the entire project. And at that point it's usually too late to reorganize everything. The amateur dev community listens to bad advice from other self-taught amateurs and it's so entrenched a bunch of them resist any advice that makes them feel like they've been doing something wrong. The solution is to stop donating to kickstarters unless the studio has released a good game of a similar scope in the past because nine times out of ten that game is either not coming out or it's going to be a disaster.

I don't know, I'm still feeling this uncanny valley. I saw some of those footage before, not knowing it was made by ai, and something inside me just felt like it's wrong, it was horrifying.

Well speaking from 2 months into future here, it did what I suspected it would - nothing. Because it's too limited. Anything that is not extremely generic footage that is almost 1:1 replication of bilions of footage we already saw, are just creepy as hell, I saw some videos generated by Sora and they are absolutely horrifying. Why are eyes or faces appearing everywhere where they shouldn't?! The AI was supposed to change industry soon, it's been two years and nothing changed. ChatGPT can't even fix the code of a simple discord bot...

I'll be sure to pirate this version too.

If you liked cubeword you should take a look at VELOREN a free open source (yes) spiritual successor that is actively developed, has a loving community and looks pretty decent! To me cubeworld omega would have to live up to Veloren and not vice versa.

This dude needs therapy; and I don't mean that in a malicious way. He genuinely needs to work on his massive anxiety issues with a professional. He seems like a well-meaning guy who went hard freeze and then flight when faced with thousands of virtual eyes on him. As long as he continues that vicious cycle, he's never going to make the game either he or the players truly want.

The fact that wollay started posting again and people are still hyped for this game is a lesson that some people are just beyond saving and will get themselves scammed.
